We took a flight for a week trip in rural Japanese country away from metropolitan area of Tokyo or Osaka. Rented a small car being a first time driver in Japan and it was a learning curb for my driver husband. A tip is ETC like a toll card is a must! Tell your rental car company.
Traveling through the Japanese countryside, with stops at iconic locations like Hakuba, Mt. Fuji, the Snow Monkey Park, Daio Wasabi farm, and a Don Quijote store, offers an amazing mix of nature, culture, and fun experiences.
Hakuba is known for its skiing and snowboarding in winter, Hakuba is a beautiful town in the Japanese Alps, surrounded by majestic mountains and offering stunning views year-round. We took the happo one gondola to se magnificent views atop the mountains.
Mt. Fuji (Iconic and Majestic) is Japan’s most famous mountain is a must-see, offering both beauty and spiritual significance. Sadly, Fujisan is shy today but we enjoyed our visit at Oishi park and Oshino Hakkai.
Snow Monkey Park or Jigokudani Monkey Park in the Nagano Prefecture is famous for its wild snow monkeys (Japanese macaques) bathing in hot springs during the winter months.
Nagano prefecture is known for its high-quality wasabi, and you can experience how it’s grown and harvested at various wasabi farms, such as the Daio Wasabi Farm near the Japanese Alps. We tasted fresh wasabi in dishes like wasabi ice cream, wasabi croquettes, or wasabi-based sauces. We walk around the picturesque farm and enjoy the cool mountain air and lush green landscape.
Don Quijote (often called “Donki”) is a famous discount store found in cities and some rural areas, where you can find everything from souvenirs to quirky Japanese goods. we explored the aisles packed with unique items ranging from snacks, electronics, beauty products, to costumes and toys.
