[Japan Travel Tips] Amanohashidate / 天橋立 – Hidden Spots, Local Food, and Stunning Views
Amanohashidate, one of the three most scenic spots in Japan
Located in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture, Amanohashidate is one of the three most scenic spots in Japan. Its name comes from the fact that it looks like a bridge spanning the heavens. A 3.6-km-long sandbar separates the Aso Sea and Miyazu Bay, and the beautiful scenery of white sandy beaches and lush pine forests attracts visitors.
There are various ways to enjoy Amanohashidate. Visitors can experience the famous “dragon ascending to heaven” view by “crotch peeking” from the observatory, or rent a bicycle to explore the sandbar. We also recommend taking a sightseeing boat to enjoy the grandeur of the area from the sea.
This blend of history and nature, dotted with culturally significant spots such as Chionji Temple and Motoise Kago-jinja Shrine, is the perfect place to spend some relaxing time. Amanohashidate offers a view that changes from season to season, and every time you visit, you will discover something new.
Please come and experience this spectacular view that Japan is so proud of!
