❄️Tōbetsu -17°C Hokkaido Snowstorm Izakaya

Tōbetsu Hokkaido small town of about 15,000 people is where I’m staying January 2025. Just outside of Sapporo. After my online work at 10pm we decided to face the frozen snow storm and trek 15 minutes to the nearest open izakaya that did not disappoint. Yakitori pork, beef, chicken. Magro tuna sashimi that is super high quality and an unknown large shellfish. Wow! Super nice older couple in there.

Wanted to put out a rare current video out there from this very interesting place. Unedited. Haha, fun experience. Growing up in California it doesn’t snow there. Never saw a proper snowstorm until I was 28 years old after moving to NYC. Haven’t seen snow in 3 years since Georgia and Armenia. Everytime it’s magical to me, really probably only seen a lot of snow 20 or so times in my life. And here it’s been all month. After broiling in humidity or summer heat the majority of the past 6 years this is a relief. The coldest temperature I’ve ever been in was this night. Around 2° F, -17°C.

Up here the snowy Northern Hokkaido lands across the sea from Primsky Krai Siberia Russia, past that frozen Heilongjiang China, not far from Vladivostok and tri-border of Russia, North Korea, and China.
