Tokyo Disney to Kyoto: Riding the High-Speed Shinkansen
Come along on our exciting journey riding the shinkansen from Tokyo Disney to Kyoto! Our day started off bright and early as we made our way from the Disney resort to the subway station, eventually heading to Tokyo station. The bustling Tokyo station greeted us with its grandeur, being one of the largest stations in Japan. We knew we had a long train ride ahead of us, so we grabbed some delicious food to bring along for the journey.
After navigating our way through Tokyo Station, we found the exact ticket office where we needed to purchase shinkansen tickets to Kyoto. The ticket line was long, with many people struggling to navigate the ticket machines. Eventually, we managed to secure our tickets and grabbed some drinks from the vending machine and bento boxes from the convenience store before boarding the train. It was also our daughter Avery’s first shinkansen ride, making the experience even more special.
The 2-hour and 12-minute journey to Kyoto was a smooth and comfortable ride on the high-speed shinkansen. Upon arrival in Kyoto, we hopped into a taxi and made our way to our hotel, the Hyatt Regency Kyoto. After settling into our room, Melissa walked to the nearest coin laundry to take care of some laundry. All of the machines except for one of them were full-service wash to dry, meaning the machine already had detergent in it. However, since we don’t dry many of our clothes, this option was not ideal. Fortunately, through the use of Google Translate, Melissa was able to figure out that one machine is a washing machine only. We ended up hang drying some of our clothes in the hotel room that we didn’t want dried in the dryer.
Our hunger led us to Kura Sushi, a popular revolving sushi bar in Kyoto. We purposely arrived early to pull a ticket, knowing the wait would be over an hour long, giving us the opportunity to explore the surrounding area and stumble upon interesting stores like a meat restaurant, a knife store, and even an artisan toothbrush store. We indulged in delicious cream-filled taiyaki before finally getting our turn at the sushi bar, where we enjoyed a delightful meal.
