夜幕低垂，雪花輕柔地飄落，我坐在溫暖的小船內，緩緩地航行在小樽運河上。河面波光粼粼，倒映著兩岸古老的紅磚倉庫，以及點綴其間的煤油路燈，交織成一幅迷人的冬夜畫卷。運河兩旁的積雪，在燈光的映照下，顯得格外潔白，與深邃的夜色形成鮮明對比，更添幾分靜謐之美

小樽運河，這條全長約1140公尺的人工水道，見證了小樽市百年來的興衰榮辱。它曾是北海道最重要的商港，被譽為「北方的華爾街」，如今卻褪去了昔日的繁華，轉而散發出一種寧靜的魅力。紅磚倉庫靜靜地佇立在河畔，訴說著當年商賈雲集的輝煌歲月。如今，這些倉庫大多已被改建成餐廳、商店和博物館，繼續為這座城市增添活力

隨著小船的緩緩前行，我仿佛穿越時空，回到了那個繁忙的年代。可以想像，當時的運河上，滿載貨物的船隻來來往往，碼頭上人聲鼎沸，一派繁榮景象。而如今，運河水面平靜如鏡，只有偶爾傳來的船槳聲打破了夜的寧靜

坐在船上，我靜靜地欣賞著這一切，感受著小樽運河的獨特魅力。雪花飄落，燈光搖曳，河水靜靜流淌，一切都顯得如此祥和美好。這段難忘的旅程，讓我對小樽這座城市，有了更深一層的認識和理解

As dusk descends, snowflakes gently fall, and I sit nestled in a warm boat, drifting along the Otaru Canal. The water shimmers, reflecting the old red-brick warehouses lining the banks and the kerosene lamps scattered along the way, creating a mesmerizing winter nightscape. The snow accumulated on either side of the canal, illuminated by the soft glow of the lamps, appears pristine white, contrasting sharply with the deep night, adding to the tranquil beauty.

The Otaru Canal, a man-made waterway stretching approximately 1,140 meters, has witnessed the rise and fall of Otaru City over the past century. Once Hokkaido’s most important trading port, known as the “Wall Street of the North,” it has shed its former bustle, now exuding a quiet charm. The red-brick warehouses stand silently along the canal, whispering tales of a glorious past when merchants gathered. Today, many of these warehouses have been transformed into restaurants, shops, and museums, continuing to enrich the city.

As the boat gently progresses, I feel as though I’m traveling through time, back to that bustling era. I can imagine the canal teeming with cargo ships, the wharves alive with activity, a scene of thriving commerce. Now, the canal’s surface is as smooth as glass, broken only by the occasional splash of an oar.

Seated in the boat, I quietly take in the scene, absorbing the unique charm of the Otaru Canal. Snowflakes fall, lights flicker, and the water flows serenely. Everything feels peaceful and beautiful. This unforgettable journey has deepened my understanding and appreciation of Otaru.
