Nagano Experience the History of Japan
Nagano City, the capital of Nagano Prefecture, is home to many historic sites, including Zenkoji Temple, and once you leave the city, you’ll find magnificent nature, mountains, and rural landscapes. It is also well-known worldwide as the host city of the 1998 Winter Olympics, and is easily accessible from the city center in as little as one hour and a half by Shinkansen, and is also home to many popular spots in the surrounding area, making it a popular base for inbound tourism in the future.
Nagano City is home to the national treasure Zenkoji Temple, which boasts a history of 1,400 years, as well as many cultural assets related to the popular Sengoku period, and its history and culture are a great attraction that draws people in. The Togakushi area, a popular power spot, is also famous as the home of Togakushi-ryu Ninjutsu, one of Japan’s three major ninjutsu, and you can experience and learn about authentic Japanese culture and history. The Matsushiro area, located in the eastern part of the city, is still home to the samurai residences of the Sanada family, famous for being warlords during the Warring States period, and the historical and cultural streets, which retain the atmosphere of the time, attract visitors. The Sanada Jumangoku Festival, held every October, sees over 250 people dressed in armor parade through the castle town of Matsushiro, recreating the prosperity of the past.
