The “Souya Hills” were formed about 20,000 years ago during the Ice Age and are the northernmost hills in Japan. They are also recognized as a Hokkaido Heritage site. The “White Road” is a very beautiful road made by spreading scallop shells, a local specialty of Hokkaido. Both the “Souya Hills” and the “White Road” offer breathtaking views that can only be experienced in Wakkanai. When visiting Wakkanai, these two spots are absolutely must-see attractions.
