This is a typical workday at a Japanese Shoe Repair Shop in Tokyo. I’m taking you inside of this small Japanese business to show you how they run their shop, earn an honest living and serve their community. Leather shoes were introduced to Japan by West towards the end of the Edo period. Through years of refinement and skilled craftsmanship, Japan’s repair techniques have reached an exceptionally high level. Japanese artisans focus meticulously on detail and precision, often making repairs look like new. Their unique approach, from material selection to innovative methods, has earned them global recognition for quality. On average, the shop repairs about four pairs of shoes a day, with a maximum of up to ten pairs on a busy day. While that might not seem like a lot, for a shop like this known for its ability to handle complex repairs, the volume is aligned with the quality it delivers. Interestingly, one of the first and most fundamental skills learned in this industry is how to repair women’s heels as it’s one of the most requested repairs. This is a behind the register look at what happen’s in this shoe repair shop.

And the feet will love it.

  14. I absolutely love seeing this, little shops with craftsmanship. it reminds me of my childhood when we had those shops everywhere (like: cobbler, tailor, butcher etc) but today their are lesser and lesser 😢 and it makes me sad bc we didn't only purchased things, we had a neighborly bond with each other and today especially in big cities it's almost gone. I would love to have such an great shop in my neighborhood ❤
