They also talk about Kpop Idol videos having a story, and that jpop doesn't. I dont' understand that at all because it's kind of the opposite. When i listen to kpop ( especially the popular idol groups like Blackpink, And all those it's more for a dance vibe I don't feel much of any emotions since they just strutting their stuff and like putting this personna of look at me I'm so cool), whatever story there is it might be a very minimal message or overshadowed by the focus on extreme dancing and looks.
I don't understand why the Kpop fans say there's no story in jpop, most things aside from the super poppy stuff have deeper messages and are stories especially since dance is not the main focus on most.
And all these Epic sets, also they don't use them that much in jpop and really it doens't matter. What matters is the music and the story and the message. Like this guy here wrote a thing he claims to like Jpop but it's clear he likes kpop more:
https://chromaticdreamers.com/lisa-vs-lisa-the-differences-between-jpop-and-kpop/
And he compares, a video of Atarashii gakko MV in a school yard to an Epic Set in an MV by Kpop group G-IDLE( G-IDLE Hwaa) where they have bunch of fantasy looking sets, bunch of make up, lots of sets with tuned colors. Yeah great if you like that but some of us, many of us like more natural stuff. And some of us have attention span to not need a bunch of changing sets and changing outfits. It just doesn't matter, great for kpop if you want to do it that way but if they don't do it in jpop, it's great we care about the music.
The author of that article said this as if everyone thinks the same:
As you can see, Kpop tends to use multiple fancy looking sets. They will also create a set for each member to be highlighted. Some MV require renting out locations like airports or expensive halls and venues. A music video may include 3+ costume changes for each idol, some of which are brand name, and they may have fancy props like cars or a billboard. They may also destroy these things in the video.
There’s also post production, which will include additional graphics and effects and ensuring everything ties together perfectly with the music. They don’t play over there….but this is also why it takes idols a very long time to put money in their own pockets.
As much as one may feel this is shallow or not that important, people like high quality stuff. Would you rather watch a dark video in 380p or a high quality one in 4K? Do you just want to see people dancing in a school yard, or you want an actual storyline with epic sets and graphics? A lot of people would choose the latter.
This is what he implied being lame

Don’t bother with those ppl, those ppl who are a JPop hater/antis ain’t gonna start listening to JPop to be honest. Most importantly,Jpop is different as it lean towards the artist rather than the idol
There is also some stigma with listening to jpop as compare to kpop, cause well it is not as popular.
What Jp music need to do, and doing quite decently lately is pulling ppl who watch anime/listen to rock/listen to metal, and subsequently listening to anisong/babymetal/bandmaid and eventually they stumble upon the non anisong/other artist songs.
