Do you know Shirakawa-go? very underrated in my opinion, it was my first place to visit when i went to Japan, and honestly seeing mountains for the first time in my life was very overwhelming in a good way.

Shirakawa-go is very popular, and it is a legitimate UNESCO World Heritage site.

I was deeply disappointed when I visited, though. You say it is “underrated,” but for the last 30-odd years I have only read gushing reviews about what an amazing place it is. I dreamed of going there for decades. Then when I did, last year, a found only a banal, modern Japanese village with a few dozen grass-roofed buildings amid cars and air-conditioners and mostly ordinary homes.

That photo taken from the hill looks very nice, though. The traditional houses really stick out from a distance.
