【Driving in Japan】Shimizudaira Forest Rd. : Kamikijima-Kayanodaira, Nagano [Insta 360 Ace Pro 4K60P]

My destination, Kayanodaira, is a plateau area at an altitude of about 1,500m in northern Nagano Prefecture, straddling the villages of Kijimadaira and Sakae.

This area is national forest, and has been designated a national park by the Ministry of the Environment and is protected. It is home to primeval beech forests, known as “Japan’s most beautiful beech forest.”

There are campsites and trekking routes, and the area attracts many tourists in the summer, but is closed in winter as it is an area that receives heavy snow.

There are several roads that lead to this plateau, but the main one is the Shimizudaira Forest Road, which I drove on this time. It has a relatively high volume of traffic, so the road surface is in good condition for a forest road.
