What a fascinating market. You must have practised for a long time to manage trying this banquet. The odours of delicious food around the market must have been amazing. As a westerner, it is true I would have been unsure about some of the dishes but I would at least have tried them all. Thank you for sharing this experience with us.

Also there used to be sparrows on a stick which were said to be delicious. Also a large kind of fish with teeth exposed. Served on a large stick. Sort of creepy looking but the older people adored that fish.
Can anyone explain to me the purpose of tempura sauce? It doesn’t seem to make the tempura taste any better and instead makes it soggy.

I love watching you eat, because you can really eat. I would try it all, I'm not picky. Where you were using mayonnaise I'd use tartar sauce. I loved the fruit sandwich, that looked beautiful and delicious, if that makes sense.
