  1. FYI – the average day here is absolutely jam packed with crowds of people. And it's not uncommon to see rude Chinese tourists literally putting the deer in headlocks to get selfies. Nara used to be a beautiful place to visit but you really need to have a lot of patience for the fools that ruin your day.

  3. What a coincidence! I was in Nara this morning! Unfortunately, Kasuga Taisha was closed for a ceremony.

    I also visited Isuien on one of my earlier trips and got a foreigners' discount then. Sadly, it's now ¥1,200 an adult for all and that's a bit steep for a garden, so i gave it a miss this time around.

    Get in early (i arrived at 7.30am) and you will have an hour or so of serenity before the hordes arrive.
