    No wonder why Bukhara was a big city because every street had a School / university aka Madrasa. It is the same place who gave birth to Ibn Sina , Muhammad al-Bukhari , Muhammad Musa Al-KHWARAZMI , Abu al-Abbas al-FARGHANI , Omar KHAYYAM, Qadi-Zada al-RUMI who reshaped modern Science, They had Sky Observatory in 1800s where they studies astronomy , algebra was created in samarkand , Books on medicines were written in this beautiful city . Mind you this was not the most literate city at that time, best of all was Baghdad . Education was not just free but stipend was provided , emirs of samaid empire were all into education and appreciated wealth of knowledge and that how these deserts transformed today's world . The Glorious Past was here
