Singapore to Sapporo WITHOUT Flying: Day 96

Singapore to Sapporo WITHOUT Flying: Day 96

Things are getting loopy again!

Hello and welcome to our next motorbike loop in Laos, the Pakse loop. This is also known as the Bolevan Plateau loop and it promises two things: waterfalls and local culture.

Day one of the loop would be a cultural day as we start by making our way to Mr Vieng’s Coffee and Homestay. Mr Vieng walked us through his farm and told us all about coffee and how he uses his land for a number of other things. He was a lovely man with a lot of passion about his work. I’d definitely recommend checking him out.

Next up was a trip to visit Captain Hook. No, this wasn’t a trip to a Peter Pan exhibition at Disneyland but instead a trip to a small rural community where a bloke named Hook had set up a tour and guesthouse. As soon as we arrived, his kids dragged us away to show us the sunset spot and tbf, it was a prime sunset spot.

In the evening we helped to make a traditional Laotian dinner of Laab. This meal consists of minced chicken or fish with spices wrapped in a banana leaf. It was a bit minty and absolutely delicious! Unfortunately for us all rooms at the guesthouse were taken tonight. Fortunately for us, Hook made space in the corner of his living room so that we could get some sleep. There were 37 of us under one roof, so we hope to have a good rest. Please no crying babies… please.
