Walking through Kokudo Station, another dimension. Yokohama, Japan, 4k

Kokudo Station on the JR Tsurumi Line, located in Tsurumi Ward, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, is known as a “unexplored station” that seems to have preserved the pre-war era. Bullet holes from when U.S. Air Force fighter planes swooped down and strafed the area can still be seen on the station’s outer walls and under the elevated tracks. In this video, enjoy a virtual walk that will make you feel as if you are transcending time and space, under a guard gate in the darkness of a ruin, or through a dimly lit ticket gate that feels like the entrance to another world.

JR National Route Station opened in 1930, and during the Pacific War, the area around Yokohama was subjected to heavy air raids. In particular, during the Yokohama Air Raid in 1945, a machine gun attack from a US Air Force fighter plane directly hit the station’s outer wall, and the traces of that attack can still be seen on the wall.

Looking back at the situation at the time, it was the American military’s P51 fighter that carried out the strafing, and the indiscriminate attack caused many casualties, including civilians. These machine gun fire marks have been passed down from generation to generation as scars from the war, and can still be seen through the netting used to prevent collapses.

Inside the station, there is a vast area under the guardrail that retains a strong trace of the Showa era, and the charred concrete walls and bullet holes quietly convey to visitors through the ages the misery of wartime. Kokudo Station is also famous among movie fans because of its retro atmosphere, and has been used as a filming location for Akira Kurosawa’s movie “Stray Dog” and the drama “Jijo Keisatsu.” Feel the breath of that era in this place, which is unrelated to the hustle and bustle of modern times.
