3 Unspoken Train Rules you need to know in Japan 🇯🇵 | #shorts #Japan #UnspokenRule #train
Heading to Japan? Here are 3 unspoken rules you must know before you get on the train!
First, the priority seats. These are for the elderly, pregnant, or disabled. You can sit there if they’re empty, but always be ready to offer your seat if someone needs it.
Second, stay quiet. Talking loudly or making phone calls on the train is considered rude. You’ll notice how peaceful the trains are, even when they’re crowded.
Third, mind your belongings. Keep your small bags on your lap or in the overhead racks. If you have a backpack, carry it in front to avoid bumping into others.

This is just common decency the whole world should have. unfortunately, it’s not like that.
Unspoken rules? The first one is literally written down right above the seats.
Это и так понятно. Странно, если где-то не так
These are the rules in the U.S., too. Probably everywhere.
And women, be wary of perverts trying to grope you
Fyi, as an Asian American (Japanese & Korean family) If you are coming from East Asia, here are some unspoken rules in US.
– don’t stare at people. Many of my relatives from Japan do this, especially staring at overweight people or minorities. This is very rude in US.
– don’t try to show off your are capability of drinking alcohol. We have too many alcoholics, ONLY college kids find this cool. Do NOT do this if you are an adult. We do not see this as “mental strength” as in Japan.
– Americans are very prticular about personal space, it is much larger than Japan and getting too physically close will casue Americans to back off. It is not because of your smell or racism. We just like being physically further apart.
– do not pick a fight. Worst that happense in Korea and Japan in altercation is usually yelling. We have guns and crazy people.
– don’t touch people, even if you mean it as a compliment. Again, guns, crazy, and private space. But sexual harrasement is taken very seriously in US. Even if you mean nothing by it, bare skin contact is heavily discouraged, except handshakes.
– Slurping food. This is the opposite here. No one likes slurping noises in US. However, blowing nose is OK. So if someone blows their nose, do not stare.
– do NOT hit on girls who look about 20 years old to you. They are probably 16. Americans usually look much older and developed to what you are used to.
– National pride in US is pretty much non-existent compared to Korea and Japan. No need to compliment US, people dont care. But Americans will talk about your food a lot, they mean well.
– don’t be offended too much. Some Americans are rude. Many are rude to everyone, it isn’t because of your race. Most people don’t care much about others to hate or like.
– don’t offer food, if they refuse once. While it is normal for you to refuse out of kindness couple times, and then accept in Japan/Korea. Americans mean what they say. If “no” they mean no. If they say “yes” they are not doing it to be rude
– say hello back. Americans just like greeting strangers. These are not crazy people. It is accepted, and you should say hello back. Don’t ask “you know me?”
– equality is very real in US. A lawyer and a construction worker is treated the same in restaurants, streets, markets, stores, etc. Do not expect differentiated treatment depending on your status in US. People don’t care unless you are a billionaire or celebrity, there is no public hierarchy.
– Thank your waiter/waitress. Just like how your status doesn’t get special treatment. You can’t just give a small nod as in Asia. Think everyone you meet in US as being the same hierarchy status, like a collegue of the same age.
