  1. Chris, don’t waste your time in lengthy responses to the nay-sayers.
The quality of your videos and the success of your channels speaks for itself. The hard work and dedication you put into your content really shows.
Are you qualified to have an opinion about life in Japan? Absolutely! Everyone can have an opinion. Is your opinion worth listening to? Over 3 million subscribers (and counting) say “Yes!”
So keep doing what you do, and don’t worry about the occasional negative comments by a handful of grumblers jealous of your success.
As a longtime follower, I look forward to your videos every day (especially the travel videos).
I dream of the day when I can travel to Japan and see these wonderful places and meet the wonderful people for myself.
Thank you for allowing me to live vicariously through your work.

  2. Don’t get why people would even be upset if you made money from a bar. Like, duh, it’s a business. You get a cool view, a nice drink, and nice environment to meet people in.

  3. There will always be trolls, even in real life. Don't let the negative minority get to your head – you did it with good intentions, and people will recognize that. I plan on visiting with my wife next time we're in Tokyo.

  4. I live in Kagoshima. There are things to do here. Unfortunately a lot of travel YouTubers tend to turn and burn. Maybe they are tired from their own mad pace by the time they get here. They get a video of the volcano and the streetcars and get back on the train. Or at least it looks that way because they show no content of value

  5. They shut down the airport over scissors but swords and matchlocks and bows and arrows and spears and halberds are legal and so are kitchen knives?

  6. I used to be a manager at a well known pub chain in the UK which also operates a number of pubs within airports. The knives used in the kitchen at any of the airport locations were chained to the prep surfaces, and staff working there had to undergo thorough security checks before starting or finishing a shift. It's quite impressive how security and safety focused air travel is across the world.

I don't use Twitter much, but I am not surprised that someone decided to attack you, Chris.. There are always going to be bitter or misinformed people casting judgment upon others on social media. Perhaps this person was simply looking for easy exposure, who knows… As you said yourself, people who actually watch you and know you, know better!

Looking forward to hopefully having a quick chat with you at LOST bar sometime! Keep up the great work mate, and don't let the trolls burden your thoughts.

  7. $9 dollars USD is equal to or less than the price of a drink in the vast majority of cocktail bars in urban areas across Europe, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and much of Asia, and other places in between. To criticize Lost based on price shows they're just looking to take a shot, it's not a legitimate criticism.

  8. Chris Broad attracted me to Japan with his banter and can be a knob with his opinions. Nevertheless, the content always delivers. Just try not to be a prick to fans lol

  9. I support you Chris and Sharla…. That's why I belong to your patreon. You make great content and your videos are visually top quality. Don't let the bullies win. You keep doing what you do best and we will keep supporting you.

  10. A large amount of those that are being rude are jealous. Jealous that you get to live the dream. I watch these and think they are cool and im watching a man live his life fully. That is enough to make people subconsciously horrible. Then they say all kinds of horrible shyt to you thay they would NEVER say to you face. Its a symptom of the disease. You have made my life better..ive been bedridden with a horrible affliction this year. Ive missed work for the first time in 15 years. With out you Chris, and Pete from wrestle me podcast, things might not be a cool for me personally. Hope you get over the mean folks and that your bar is very successful. 🫠

  12. you've worked really hard for years to get where you are Chris and i absolutely admire that in you and appreciate all the content you've put out for us. So sorry you had a bad week…chin up, don't forget to be happy & keep believing in what you do. Thanks Chris & Pete for this podcast

  13. That twitter guy seemed to be in envy of you and what you achieved. It was a subtly spiteful and quite a stupid post from him. Anyone with a functional brain would take anything with a salt of grain so attacking you personally and saying you don't represent everyday Japan does not contribute to anything besides, obviously, taking a shot at you. It is the usual twitter garbage.

  14. Great to see Donaldson's inverted snobbery back on display! Odd for an individual who frequently rages against stereotypes! A very confused and contradictory mind.

  15. I do like how the person who hatemailed Chris on Twitter said "he doesn't know what it's like to be a normal person [in Japan]!". Yeah, no shit Skippy, he's a British youtuber living in a place that is decidedly not the UK doing what is (at least until very recently) an unusual job – he's obviously going to have a different perspective from the locals. Imagine if I got mad at every American who's ever been charmed or smitten with something about England, and angrily replied with "u dunt know wot its like 4 normul Binglebonglelandurs!" As a "normal" English person I'm going to have a rather different opinion (potentially positive or negative) of the country I was born in, than someone who arrived later who is inevitability bringing an outsiders perspective.

The level of arrogance it must take to accuse Chris of being privileged is beyond my comprehension.

  16. Chris I don’t think you realise how much you ( and Sharla, the Pete’s, Natsuki, etc) give to your viewers. Your insights into Japanese life are so interesting. My son has just started his second year as a Tokyo JET ( he started watching your channel before he went). He is doing so well and embracing the lifestyle. Your podcasts and videos are a lifeline to me to try and understand his new environment. Going to be spending Christmas and New Year with him and cannot wait to visit LOST. We won’t be having KFC!! Thanks for all the hard work and fun times you share with us. Much respect for your work 🥂

  17. Chris gets blasted by weebs and nationalist constantly for not being like "WOW JAPAN" constantly. I live in Japan, I love it here, but I also have a lot of things to say that are negative about Japan because nowhere is perfect.

  18. I agree that you have to fight back, people who say "just ignore it", I get it, it is the most least confrontational, reasonable thing to do, but if the reasonable people shut up, what's left?… there you go.

  19. Regarding the first segment, about waking up and checking Twitter, I honestly think people see a title & a thumbnail and think of a comment based on that more than the content itself. The person Chris is mentioning did not even care so much as to check literally 90% of the reviews on the bar that say a typical visit to the bar ran them roughly $20-30, which for 2 or 3 drinks is quite reasonable. They just assumed that because the images of the drinks and the decor of the bar looked fancy that they would be overpaying.

  20. Hey Chris! Thank you for the great podcast. Love your content. 💪 I've been a waitress and a barista for over 18 years.

My first 2 weeks on a waitress job ever was very rough. Working in the service industry, you are sometimes just a target for people's out let. Luckily, I was lucky to have a GREAT boss!

She sat me down and said, "Look, I get it. With a job like this, you quickly find out whether you want to really understand people, and whether you like them, or you hate a job like this and drop it. The thing is, no matter how perfect a job you ever did, angry people will always be angry. Critical people will always be critical. It's not about you. You do a good job, and you're good."

👉 It's always very easy to be "the big man behind the screen" and rave and rant. Generally, people who invest that much time raving and ranting must be quite sad and miserable people.

Opinions are free and you can't live "trying to appease." The whole point is that critical people will ALWAYS be critical – no matter what you do. For whatever reason, that's their nature.

It's not about you and you don't have to defend yourself, or even go into it. ❤ It's just noise.

  21. Someone asked about food on the podcast, didn’t they? These days, sandwiches from Japanese convenience stores are quite famous, but if you’re open to trying traditional Japanese home-style cooking, I recommend "Yayoi-ken". It's a chain restaurant, but you can enjoy typical Japanese "teishoku" (set meals) at an affordable price. A teishoku usually includes rice, miso soup, pickles, and a main dish of either fish or meat prepared with home-style seasonings. Just a little tip from a Japanese person!

  22. Chris, that guy on Twiiter clearly doesn't known anything about you or your experiences. Try to pay it no mind, you've experienced a lot in the beautiful, but flawed country that is Japan.

  23. To be honest Chris you look under worrying stress. I know its a busy time for you but maybe a rest will help. Watch you don't burn out pal. Pressure is both internal and external. Maybe time to release a bit.

  24. Oh is this about that NHK guy? Yeah that was kinda weird. I don't understand the point of him posting that on twitter
