We got to the mountain observatory 🏔️ an hour before sunset to catch the famous night view dubbed one of the top 3 most famous in Japan ✨ but we were still late judging by the crowd! 😱 People had already taken over the best viewpoint on the top floor, and the 2nd best viewpoint was already 2-3 rows of people deep 🤯

Nevertheless, we got as close as we could and waited for the sunset 🌅 with its gorgeous pastel hues. It took a while for it to get truly dark enough for the night view and some people started to leave so we squeezed into the front row and got these shots 📸 Here’s how to get your own:

📍 Mt. Hakodate Observatory
Hakodateyama, Hakodate, Hokkaido 040-0000, Japan

⏱️ 10AM – 10PM
💰 1,800 yen / person for roundtrip ropeway ticket

Tips:
🌅 Go at least 1.5 hours before sunset to get a good spot
📸 Bring a selfie stick to get above the crowd
🧥 Bring a jacket as it can get cold up there waiting for sunset
