I've always been drawn to the charm of Kyoto. This time, I decided to stay for 5 days to fully immerse myself in the city's rich culture and history.

After ticking off the must-see attractions, I had 3 days left to explore the hidden gems of Kyoto. With a quick search on Google Maps, I discovered a temple northeast of my Shijo-Karasuma stay that turned out to be a hidden gem frequented by locals. Kyoto never ceases to surprise and delight.

I just did some research. It seems to be Shinnyo-dō (真如堂) or Shinshōgokuraku-ji (真正極楽寺). It is around 4km northeast of Shijo-Karasuma. To go there from Shijo-Karasuma the best way is to take City bus no.32, no.5 or no.203 and get off at Shinnyodo-mae bus stop. The temple is 3min walk following the signboards.
