A inn inherits ancient hot spring culture – Sukayu Onsen Ryokan – Hakkoda, Aomori JAPAN | 4K Vlog

We visited Sukayu Onsen, a hidden hot spring in Aomori Prefecture JAPAN.

This huge hot spring inn at the foot of the Hakkoda mountain range has a total of 139 rooms. 60% of the rooms are Toji buildings, and it is a famous inn that attracts many hot spring visitors who are planning to stay for a long time.

The Toji building, which retains the atmosphere of the early Showa period, is a wonderful building that remembers the hustle and bustle of people who gathered for hot springs in the past. The rooms are simple, but it is one of the few precious inns where you can enjoy hot springs at a reasonable price. And the renovated inn building is comfortable to stay in.

Sukayu Onsen is known as a sacred spring above the clouds. Along with Japan’s largest mixed bath called the Hiba Sennin Bath, the highly acidic water with a pH of 1.5-1.8 and a strong sulfur smell is a wonderful spring quality that you can only expect from a hot spring. It is a miraculous hot spring where the wonderful spring quality springs from under your feet.

I took a bath three times, and even a short stay was healing. It seems that many people use it in this way, trekking in Hakkoda during the day and then healing their bodies at the inn. The custom is to do a 10-day hot spring cure, 3 times a day, and I would like to try it someday.

Through its 300-year history, Sukayu Onsen has been loved by many famous people, and is especially known for the world-famous printmaker Shiko Munakata, who created his works at the inn while undergoing hot spring cure. I have dreamed of taking a leisurely hot spring cure at Sukayu Onsen as a hot spring cure guest someday.
