✨ Is HARAJUKU still worth visiting? ✨ Tour of Harajuku, Tokyo in 2024

A walk around Harajuku in 2024, with a look at the shops, cute fashion, gachapon and kawaii goods.

Harajuku has always been the centre of kawaii and alternative fashion in Tokyo. However, over the years it’s become increasingly touristy. Since I first went to Japan in 2010, I’ve noticed fewer clothing stores and more novelty snacks. These days there are more shops with cute character goods, and lots of gachapon stores. In the video we take a look around Harajuku so you can see what it’s like in 2024 and decide whether it’s worth visiting. We’ll start on Takeshita Street, look round Alta department store, see some original Harajuku stores, visit Togo Shrine and wander the backstreets in Ura-Harajuku. There’ll also be some prices in the shops, so you can see how much things cost.

  1. Thank you very much Amy for this great video. My first time in Japan and therefore in Harajuku was only in 2017. I have since been there two more times, and next March, will return (I cant wait) . Harajuku has definitely changed a lot. I prefered it, when it was less touristy and with more special shops, catering not only to tourists. I enjoyed the alternative fashion, the beautiful but now destroyed Harajuku station, and the freaky shops.

  2. Fantastic video. This does make me want to take another visit to Harajuku, as we haven't been back for quite a few years! Also OMG, I LOVE Blue Giant. I haven't read the manga, but I adore the movie and I would kill for those Converse!!!

  3. Went there trying to find a gift for a friend and was overwhelmed by how busy it was. However, we found the loveliest cafe ocross the other end in one of the shopping centre.
