Japan Railway Enthusiast’s Paradise: Diorama Kyoto Model train Museum & Scenic Railway Adventure

Thank you for riding with Choo-Choo Travel!

In this video, we visit one of Japan’s most iconic cities, Kyoto, known for its rich history and beautiful scenery. Our journey took us to “Diorama Kyoto Japan,” the largest railway diorama in Western Japan. This museum offers an incredible experience with a massive diorama and train operation simulators. However, I was disappointed to find that the EF66 diorama operation experience was temporarily unavailable due to maintenance. But thanks to the kind staff, I was given a special opportunity to see the driver’s cab up close! (Please note that this was a rare exception, so let’s not pressure the staff for special access.)

For lunch, I enjoyed Kyoto’s specialty, Yuba Zaru Udon, and later, I hopped on the Sagano Scenic Railway’s “Rich Car,” an open-air train that offers breathtaking views of the lush green Arashiyama area. It was a delightful and memorable day, and I’m excited to share this experience with you all.

Please keep in mind that while I strive to provide accurate information, there may be some errors, so feel free to leave corrections in the comments. This video is created with respect for the people and places we visit, ensuring that we prioritize the experience of children and avoid capturing faces without permission. I hope international viewers will be inspired to visit Japan and enjoy these wonderful experiences.

  2. I have to say that I'm surprised to see a glass wall around the diorama. And you know what would have made that scenic ride at the end even better? Had it been pulled by one of those beautiful steam locomotives 😉

  3. Everything about this diorama was stunning. I could spend hours enjoying all of its details. I enjoyed how the speed of the trains was properly coordinated to the scale of the diorama, adding to the realism of the overall effect. The way they slowly departed and entered the stations was very enjoyable to see. The nighttime lighted effects of the townscape was beautiful, and the illuminated starry sky was a great surprise. I'm glad you were able to experience the EF66 driver's cab. I hope to be able to visit this museum one day. Arigatougozaimasu for introducing me to this enthusiast's paradise. Your trolley train ride was a visual treat. The views of the foliage and the river were spectacular. 👍🙂
