Describing this as “between Tokyo and Kyoto” isn’t wrong, but feels a little odd and makes it sound further than it is. From Tokyo it’s less than 1/5 the total distance between those two cities. It’s the next prefecture over and Kyoto is like the 5th. If you’re in Tokyo, it’s quite a comfortable day trip.

Look at all those swan boats 🦢 . People are enjoying the lake and they clearly wanted to have a close look at the torii.
