Every summer and winter, my wife receives an insane number of ochuugen お中元, or summer gifts from her students. We received five sets of high-end beef, three sets of massive grapes (shine muscat, Alexandria, Peone), amazing mangoes from Okinawa, ¥10,000 melons, loads of desserts and cakes, senbei/rice crackers and more. The one that impressed me the most, though, was this 800gram set of wagyu. It was divine.

We made shabu shabu, and the meat just melted in my mouth. Can’t eat more than 200grams. It’s just too rich!

Upvote for Omi-gyu, it’s my local wagyu!

If you’re in Kansai and have a special occasion to spend some $ on top wagyu, check out Morishima in Omihachiman city – one of the top Omigyu spots in Shiga.
