In the 16th century, a major battle for control of the land was fought between the Uesugi and Takeda clans in this area. There is a legend that the Uesugi lord rode on horseback into the Takeda camp and directly attacked their leader and you can see a statue depicting the scene in the park.
The rice terraces in Obasute, Chikuma City are well known for their panoramic views. Especially the night view is breathtakingly beautiful. There is a train station near the rice terraces that offers one of the top three most scenic views from trains in Japan.
