Stretching approximately 14 kilometers (about 8.7 miles) from Lake Towada to Yakeyama, the gorge is renowned for its lush forested landscapes, cascading waterfalls, and crystal-clear streams.

The gorge is blanketed with a dense forest consisting of beech, oak, and maple trees. In spring and summer, the foliage is lush and green, while autumn brings a stunning display of red, orange, and yellow leaves.

Oirase Gorge features well-maintained walking trails that follow the river, providing easy access to the waterfalls and scenic viewpoints. The trails are relatively flat, making them suitable for hikers of all levels.The most popular route is the trail that runs parallel to the Oirase River from Nenokuchi (near Lake Towada) to Yakeyama, which takes about 4-5 hours to complete at a leisurely pace.
