    Taiyaki. It’s basically a waffle or pancake batter filled with various things. Typically red bean paste but can be all sorts of things now.

    Had one filled with custard in Ueno at the end of a good tour and it was really nice! At least that’s what I remember, I was pretty for gone from too much sake at the point of the tour! 😝

    There’s a shop around me called “Somi-Somi” and they use mochi flour and it’s so so good. Red bean paste is the og, but I like Nutella in mine

  5. As others have said, taiyaki – “tai” means “sea bream” in Japanese.

    Traditionally filled with anko, red bean paste, it can also be filled with chocolate sauce, custard, sweet cheese paste or various other fillings.

    You often seen them sold at stalls during temple and shrine festivals. Another version is shaped like a circle and is called obanyaki or imagawayaki.
