one of the great sites to see when you’re in Kyoto is the Fushimi Inari Shrine but what about a day trip toara combined with that is it even possible let’s get into it so if you have Kyoto as your base while visiting Japan Fushimi anari Shrine is right on the way to Nara so you can actually plan a day where you do both things in the same day and I’m going to tell you how so you’re going to want to start real really early specifically for for fusini miari Shrine it gets very busy this is the shrine with the thousands of Tory Gates going up the mountain that are instagramable instagrammable shots that people are coming to you know get their their money shot and everything so you want to get there super early to avoid the crowds as much as possible a lot of the bigger tour groups are going to arrive somewhere around 9:30 10 a.m. and you want to get there before that so you want to head out probably around 6: 6:30 in the morning to get there right at like 7:00 so you can get there before all of those crowds now when you’re exploring it is it is a bit of a hike it’s not for the fah heart it is uphill all the way um so take your time but it is incredible the the Tory gates are just so breathtaking as you’re making this climb but again you’re getting getting your morning workout so just be prepared if you’re going to do the whole Trail you want to plan out for an hour and a half to 2 hours maybe even 3 hours depending on how fast you walk regardless you’re probably going to want to spend a good hour and a half at this specific Shrine anyway because there’s lots of things to do if you have a Ginko book you’re going to want to get your stamp done there’s usually a line for that you may want to go pray at The Shrine so all of these things are going to take time but the biggest chunk of your time is going to be climbing and exploring the Tory gates up and down there’s plenty of little tiny shrines along the way to stop and rest and just take in the nature of the space and keep in mind the higher you go the less people there are so if you are really looking for a way to get a beautiful shot with just you in it and the Tory Gates keep climbing when you are all done you may want to stop on your way back to the Jr station there is an anari Shrine station that’s where you’re getting off um and where you’ll get back on to head down to Nara now the Jr line that you’re going to take out of Kyoto is the Nara line so it’s really easy to hop on the Jr train get off at the Yari station go visit the temple walk back get back on the uh Nara line and head down to the Nara station they make it pretty easy they they’re not naming these stations kind of crazy for you to figure out so once you are getting off at the Nara station you’re going to head over to where everything is where Nara Park is where the Buddhist temple is and where the shrine is so the two Buddhist temples that are of interest in Nara are the kofukuji and the toi those two temples are very close to each other really on the same grounds and those are where you’re going to spend most of your time TOA G is the more popular of the two and is the one that you’re going to wait in line the longest but it is the largest wooden structure and oldest wooden structure I believe in Japan now it may have been replaced since then but it is a massive Temple it’s going to take you time to get through both because of the tourist and because of just the mirror and sheer size it is a beautiful spot and I can’t even describe what it was like to see the large Buddha and all of the avatars and then it has a unique pillar where if you can fit through the hole in the bottom it’s supposed to bring you Enlightenment into your next life um I could not fit through the hole so I’m not going to be very enlightened apparently once you’re done with the both of the Buddhist temples now you’re going to head over to Nara Park now if you’ve Googled or uh looked up Nara Park um and seen the videos yes it is true this is where the Bowing deer are now since the pandemic they’ve gotten probably a little bit more aggressive than they were previously so you do need to keep that in mind they are wild animals though they are very calm and fairly domesticated um and used to people being around you will see signs everywhere about them reaching into your pocket or biting you so you do have to keep that in mind don’t tease them they do sell these little Wafers that you are going to feed them and when the deer comes up you bow and the deer is supposed to Bow back to you and then you give them their wafer um this is really a fun experience um there again we had some of them kind of chase us around a little bit um but for the most part they were very friendly very docile um and they’re everywhere literally everywhere um but of course when you have an experience like this it’s going to bring out the people as well so Nara Park gets very crowded especially in the late afternoon but it is a really fun way to end your day exploring the this area on your way back if it’s not too late you can certainly stop along and get some great great eats or there’s plenty of 7-Elevens and Lawson between Nara Park and the train station that you can pick up a quick bite just remember don’t eat and walk eat while you’re at the Lawson or the 7-Eleven and then head to the train if you’re looking for other great day trips or ways to spend your day from Koto make sure to leave a comment below I would love to help you plan your trip to tooto and the surrounding areas and help you explore Japan in the way that makes sense for you thanks for watching I’m Michelle with the traveling cheese head and until next time travel safe where are we going next let’s go
