PFA. Any advice is appreciated. Looking to pick up a car that was recently imported from Japan. Its being sold by a dealer and Its been in the US for about a week.

They said the car had its inspection, just waiting on the title to come in. Makes sense since they probably just applied for it. Told me I can pick up the car regardless. I really want the car, but Im not sure about paying full in cash and not having the title in hand. In the past Ive either had the export certificate, etc and titled it myself, or it already had a US title.

Should I wait until they have the title, or is there anything I can request to show it's on the way (temp tags?)

I personally would wait for the rest of the papers to come in cause you don’t want to buy it then never have the title.

wait for that title. if you got cash in hand like that they will be willing to work with you, i hope

    If they can’t title it?

    Then what ?
Track car or rebirth with a local vin number shell

  4. Give them an unsigned check for the full amount and tell them you’ll only sign it at the time they provide you with the title in your hand. Let them verify funds with your bank while you wait for them to procure the valid title. Once they have the title for you, you’ll release the funds by signing the check.

I would heavily avoid until it’s titled and able to be registered in your state. In FL and several other states for instance you can’t register an import if your name isn’t on the sales paperwork. I would typically avoid any fast sale with a jdm import just because of how much shadiness there can be out there.

Never buy a car without a title, unless you’re prepared to deal with a title-less car.

Leave a deposit and pay the rest when you pick it up unless they wanna give it to you w a deposit
