– ABOUT THE VIDEO –

Shizuka is back with PART 3 of our Japan By Food vending machine series! This time in Akihabara, Tokyo!

Japan – a place where innovation meets convenience – is known to have vending machines around almost every corner. Wherever you travel, you can find a thirst-quenching, energizing, or sweet-tooth-satisfying drink whenever you need.

But Japan’s vending machines aren’t JUST for drinks, and some areas are known to have more amusing (and creepier?) ones than others. So, in this episode, Shizuka visits a neighborhood known for electronics, including its vending machines, as well as otaku and anime culture, to show you some vending machines that might be worth a visit during your Tokyo travels. Enjoy!

the smell there are smaller pieces I could take I’m going to go with this [Music] one Tokyo is a place where Innovation meets convenience and I think the perfect example of that is Japan’s many many many vending machines today I am in Akihabara Tokyo this is the electric Town otaku aka geeki Town of Tokyo and we’ve already been here for a vending machine video but this time I had to come back because akih Haba is just brimming with unique vending machine you can find pretty much anything in a Japanese vending machine even underwear and we’re going to prove that to you here in Akihabara today in part three of our bizaar vending machine series before we go don’t forget to subscribe for more bizaar Japan Adventures let’s do this [Music] all right here we are at my first vending machine stop we’re starting off really strong and very high quality with a Niko mané cutlet sandwich which I have not actually seen before but nikun man is an actual restaurant that serves hamburger steaks which is basically a hamburger patty without the buns and it’s a very popular Japanese dish let’s give it a try so they have two vending machines here this one actually sells just the hamburger steak they also have beef stew in a box and here we have the actual sandwiches I think I want to try the cutlet sandwich cuz I’ve heard that that is really popular and I’m just really curious about the beef stew how do they serve it and how do you eat it out of a box so I’m just going to buy that and see what it looks like all right let’s give it a try it’s a day of Adventure today [Music] here it is oh my gosh the vending machine smells like pork cutlet all right let’s get the beef stew now something tells me that you’re not supposed to eat this one on the spot cuz it’s cold and I don’t know if you want to eat cold stew but let’s open it and find out it’s so convenient that they also have a drink vending machine just a normal vending machine but that means you can have a drink with your meal so I might as well get a drink I want to try something new today they always change up the drink selection that they have in here earlier today I tried this one which is called um um salty which is basically a Japanese pickled uh salted plum but I also see this like canned lchi yogurt drink with salt and I just want to see how it tastes so let’s get that one it’s nice and cold it looks so good let’s give it a try all together all right here’s my my lunch for today vending machine lunch I’m going to start by trying the drink that I just got oh I like that it’s like a creamy ly drink it’s so good now I’m just dying to open this there you go that’s what’s on the inside so it’s literally just a packaged bag of beef stew yeah I don’t think I can try this today unfortunately but that’s what it looks like just in case you’re curious so let’s try the one that you can eat right now it looks really promising you guys look at that that looks like a legit cutlet sandwich let’s give it a taste a little bit dry but it’s still pretty good the flavor is great the sauce is super yummy it’s a little bit sweet like if you were hungry and you really wanted a bite to eat it’s a wor worth a try one of the better vending machine Foods I have tried in Japan so far that’s for sure all right on to the next vending machine all right after a lovely vending machine cutlet sandwich I am now back at what I refer to as the creepy vending machine Corner in Akihabara we actually filmed here for a previous video and it really gave me the creeps I think a couple reasons for that is it’s filthy in in there and and it’s very uncharacteristic of Tokyo and there’s a lot of weird things in the vending machines but we’re back for the video to try some things that I haven’t tried yet I hear that there is an Oden in a can and you can also get yucky toti or grilled chicken skewers in a can and frankly I wouldn’t trust anything that comes out of these vending machines so I’m doing it just for you guys for science wish me luck let’s go check it out [Music] it has some weight to it that’s a heavy like Hefty can so by the way the expiration date is it lasts for five whole years I’m a little worried about this but this looks okay it’s mostly vegetables stewed vegetables so I’m not too scared of this all right I’m going to try with what I feel is going to be the worst one it’s the grilled chicken skewers in a can oh that made quite a sound oh no the smell oh I you know the first moment you open it it smells kind of like canned dog food okay it’s time to try it it looks not very appetizing like actually it looks kind of disgusting I’m just going to put it out there there are smaller pieces like a take I’m going to go with this one so please um like And subscribe you guys cuz I’m doing this for you it’s very gooey okay this the skin is kind of gross but the taste isn’t as bad as I expected the sauce is okay all right now it’s time to try we can Oden um it also doesn’t look super appetizing imagine if you poured it into a bowl it might just look like a regular Oden let’s just take one out and see what it looks like and then I’m going to pour it into a bowl that looks like a tofu maybe I don’t even know what that is actually it tastes like a very very soft sponge that’s absorbed the taste of the soup but let’s put it into a bowl and see how it all looks together it looks a lot better in a bowl it really does look the way it’s supposed to look I will say that the daone the Japanese daon radish does look very good I might give this a try I’d say it tastes like a normal daon in an Oden if you can get past the fact that it’s like room temperature and it comes out of a can then it’s it’s fine well there you have it very mediocre Let’s uh I’m going to I guess eat a little bit more of this and then let’s go find some more vending machine food I really don’t like this vending machine corner I don’t know why we’re [Music] here all right I’m here at my next vending machine find and it is right next to akih Haba station so it is very easy to get to so this is a frozen crepe vending machine it’s called an ice crepe I don’t know what it’s going to be like when it comes out but it looks pretty good and they have some recommendations for the best ways to eat it if you wait 15 minutes this is the peak time it’ll be nice and cold but also like chewy I might just go with like something I think you can’t go wrong with which is the chocolate banana so let’s try that one okay this is the crepe so it’s not quite ready to eat yet so I’m going to set my timer for 15 minutes to get the ideal time timing to eat this and while I do that I’m going to check out this mystery vending machine right next door cuz it is beckoning to me basically it’s a vending machine where you get to try your luck and win some potentially very special prices and some of the possible prizes you can get are here there’s like Nintendo switches video cameras digital cameras you could even win a PlayStation 5 or an app watch even okay it’s a vending machine that makes dreams come true for just 1,000 yen this sounds promising let’s give it a try I’m going go with this one here we go beep what did we get it’s too light to be a Roomba that’s for sure it’s not a PlayStation 5 let’s open it up oh what is this a face guard I don’t think this was worth my 1,000 yen I am highly disappointed let me tell you that I would have been better off with Pokémon cards does this go with my fashion at least what is this supposed to do for me I did not win anything special okay we have now waited 15 minutes which is the ideal time to wait to try this C so let’s open it up well it looks kind of underwhelming let’s just give it a taste that’s actually pretty good the crepe part itself is very chewy and sweet it’s very delicious the whipped cream on the inside is very cold so this would be a perfect snack on a hot summer day this is the perfect time to eat it m [Music] look these are vending machines that sell stamps called hunko which are personalized name stamps I’m going to try this vending machine to get my very own hunko I actually have one um already like an official one but I might as well it’s talking to me but I might as well make a new one that has my first name on it cuz I have my Japanese last name on it let’s get give it a try all right it’s ready it has come out and it’s a little bit Dusty it says so you can it looks so good that’s super cute all you got to do is dip it in some ink and then it’s ready to go so I actually had my other stamp for official business so all I did was like rub the leftover ink on my other one on this to see if I could get it a little bit of a stamp going very cute I’m actually really happy I did this I mean this isn’t one that I would use professionally but it is cool for like a nice casual stamp like I could stamp the end of a letter with this all right let’s keep looking for some more vending machines let’s [Music] go this is a really cool little Street there’s a bunch of random anime vending machines and this random retro Street Fighter Arcade game it’s a real arcade game you can play for 100 yen that’s so cool and these are really bizarre I think this is a vending machine where you can buy photographs of Idols especially like a group called akb48 which originally had 48 girls and that particular group started in Akihabara here a set of 100 cards or photos of AKB as a whole group for a th000 yen I don’t know if I need a 100 cars but it is very interesting so I think I’m going to wrap up the day today with a refreshing drink cuz there’s one last very special drink vending machine that I want to check out so let’s go find [Music] it after a long day of exploring all of aab unique vending machines I now arrived at my last one and this is the perfect place for a refreshing drink this is a pomu vending machine pomu is a very popular brand of orange juice here and this is the classic one but they have all kinds you can actually compare different types of orange juice from ehime prefecture in Japan which is currently the number one producer of Japanese Mandarin oranges so I’m going to buy a couple to compare which one should I get I think I’m going to try the classic Aime Mika and I think I’m I’m going to try a h pong cuz it’s got such a cute name it means princess pong and let’s try a ka chi bangan jelly drink as well and we’re going to take that over to a brighter Street cuz it’s a bit dark over here all right I’m back on the main street closer to Akihabara station now and I’m going to start with what I know is going to be good for sure it’s theim Mikan drink oh that is so good it’s very sweet and 100% natural okay now let’s try the other one I’ve never tried this before the very different it’s a little bit more sour it’s very nice I’d say it’s got a nice balance of sweet and sour okay now I’m going to try the kawachi bangang and it’s a jelly drink it looks like just regular juice m that’s really fun you just get like a mouthful of Jello-O basically it’s like sweet with a little hint of sourness but mostly sweet all right guys well that about wraps up my adventure here in Akihabara exploring all of the very unique vending machines that they have here there was a lot of variety oh my goodness way more than I was expecting and I’d love to know in the comments down below which vending machine you guys like the most that you would want to try and whether or not not you’re brave enough to try the chicken in a can cuz that did take a little bit of Bravery um but anyway if you guys enjoyed this video please make sure to give us a like if you enjoyed the video don’t forget to subscribe and if you’d like to find more Japan adventures and things to do you can check the links Down Below in the description and thank you to everybody who stopped to say hi it’s always nice to chat with the people who are watching the channel so if you guys ever see 3. You need to come up with a logo sticker for the cordless mic outside plate. Maybe a stamp type like the vending stamp. Instead of the grey piece of metal, liven it up.

  4. Vending machines look pretty great for drinks, that's for sure, both cold and warm beverages and even soups, I remember a canned corn soup once. And Shizzy is back at Creepy's vending machines just for us, she's taking one for the team 🥺 I really hope she doesn't get sick after that.

  5. It was so cool to see you as a guest on 'Somebody Feed Phil'. Congrats on your appearance and I look forward to your next video.

  8. What about beer in a vending machine??? Is that a thing in Japan? What's the vending machine beer like?

  9. Shizuka is a Super Hero for eating that chiken… fun video.
This is a bit random but please make a video about anime figure stores 🙏

  10. I've been watching and enjoying this channel for quite a while. Shizuka's brave effort in trying the food from the creepy vending machine corner has convinced me to like and subscribe.

  11. I couldn't find the vending machines with food while in Japan. The ones with drinks and cigarettes were everywhere.
