Japan’s winter wonderland! – Otaru & Sapporo’s snow festival 2024



I visited Sapporo’s 74th annual snow festival held in between 4th February to the 11th February for about a week. The festival has many snow and ice sculptures crafted by locals and teams across the world including Korea, Hawaii, Indonesia, Lithuania, Mongolia, Poland, Portland, Singapore, and Thailand that take part in the annual competition.

It is free to take a look around, but best to visit at night when the projection mapping, light shows and ice sculptures are illuminated. The snow and ice sculptures are illuminated up until 10pm and 11pm and take place around 3 sites within Sapporo. These include: Odori, Susukino and Tsudome.
