#Ryokan #Sanriku #boutiquehotel

hi this is quinland and today I want to introduce you to Nagisa Taran my favorite Rian in IAT prefecture I think this is just about the best place there is to stay in all of IAT this little rokan is located on the northeastern coast of IAT on the San Ru Coast right basically in the San Ru huko National Park along the michinoku coastal Trail here in Taro if you’ve heard of Taro you may have heard of it in the context of the 2011 tsunami this city had an enormous 2.4 km seaw wall that didn’t hold up on that March 11th tsunami and this area was devastated in fact the owner of this hotel Mr Matsumoto was here right when the tsunami struck he previously owned a hotel called the tar cono hotel which remains now as an artifact a remnant of the tsunami and in fact if you come and stay here mamasan will show you the footage he took of that day out the window as the tsunami came crashing over the seaw wall and gutting the hotel as he stood within it my room in the churro building room six here we go yes I’ve been in here already of course got my raincoat hanging up there and what a view out all these windows we right above the Pacific Ocean of course there’s the balcony little sink here where we’ve got what we got here the little coffee and nice um this is a local cast iron nutki this is made in moroka I love that nuteki teapots nice couches this one while it’s to Tomy mats it also has western style beds on the tatami mats it’s kind of a nice mix some of the rooms are futons on the floor some are like this you can choose and look at this massage chair gaze out at the Pacific I while getting a massage I love these Japanese massage chairs if you haven’t tried any they’re they’re fantastic you get the feet your thighs your legs your butt your back all the way up to your neck these are just fantastic two different balconies one out here another out here with a couple of chairs of course there’s the bathroom which in Japan you have it separated which is much cleaner you’ve just got this one bathroom and of course it’s got a oh wow and a jumped up yeah the it automatically detects you goes up and it’s got all the uh bells and whistles all the Frills and even like a little English translation that’s nice and of course all the towels toiletries more uh lotions and things that I know what to do with and a Jacuzzi hello with all these Jets not bad and of course just like a normal Japanese Hot Springs it’s got the stool and the shower as you know when you go to a Japanese hot hot springs in Japan first you sit in one of these take off your clothes or you take off all your clothes rather first sit on one of these and wash yourself off take wash your hair rinse yourself off then get into the bath there’s the shower head up there and the bath is your own private outdoor rmo hot bath overlooking the coast of course it’s set in this case at 43° which I find yeah 40 to 43° is about right for what I like my baths to be at all wood God that’s so nice I am definitely going to be bathing in this later today and in addition to this I will show you there are a couple of baths upstairs on the roof an indoor and an outdoor one that you can uh privately book and so in addition to this little bath there’s access to a bigger one I me just look I mean it’s small with this but the Mist rising over these rocks out in the distance there it’s just gorgeous I love this Coast so you’ve seen what the side of the rooms look like but I want to take you just a very short walk uh down the road from the hotel to show you just this amazing gorgeous Coastline that uh the hotel is right on the edge of of course high on the cliffs above it just about 3 minutes walk from the hotel is this gorgeous view of the coast course right now it’s lost in the Mist but what you’re not seeing are some beautiful Rocky formations and and little islands and cliffs jutting out these rocks down there are called the San NOA they are otaa and TAA or man woman in drum rocks I do love this Misty weather though I’ve had some beautiful sunny days while I was guiding guests along the coast last week but uh today it’s rainy and Misty and that is also mysterious atmospheric dreamy perfect yeah yeah yeah this is the appetizer and look at this I’m not going to torture you with watching me eat all this um but uh I going to just take a few bites to tell you a little bit about it of course the salad dressing is amazing and this um they’re calling it a sort of Pate it’s um pork and uh chicken liver which doesn’t necessarily sound great but this is again made by a world class chef and yeah just all of this is Art it’s just really nice I’m going to turn this off and just enjoy eating it this is just too good and cor stew is here and that is a soup this is made with Tong Kaku or short horn beef soup and it is just the beef stock there’s not actually chunks of beef in there it’s the stock and there’s a little bit of garlic bread look at this you know it’s good soup when there’s a huge plate and it’s just a small amount right when I do my foraging videos I feel the same way but I really wish I could convey scents because this smells amazing yeah no this is wow it’s it’s it’s simple and yet just just perfect this is the French and local seafood Arrangement that you would normally get and you can see here I don’t know it looks like there’s salmon and shiso leaf I don’t even know what all this is but it’s basically Seafood looks like I can see some oysters on the other hand if you’re a meat eater he has here a pork shoulder roast it looks like eggplant and salsa and it’s a us a soy sauce this just looks amazing this is that famous Tong kakuu here in tohoku it’s not wagu that’s all fatty and marbled but rather a red meat with turnips broccoli it looks like garlic there this is fantastic so I’m going to torture you a little bit by forcing you to watch me taste this and let you know how it is I’m sort of holding it really high I’m here as you can see it look at this this a lot of people prefer wagu the sort of uh it’s most famous for like uh kol bay and things like that but um there’s also one in my SAU and a few different places really but I’ve always liked this red meat a lot better it doesn’t melt in your mouth you got to chew it but it’s so good yeah yeah forgive the long silence there that’s just so good this place costs 60,000 Yen per person for two it’s a two room occupancy so you’re getting two meals bre and dinner and that huge amazing room with that gorgeous view the baths everything and it’s in a current exchange R anyways $400 a night uh but it’s uh just a great place I really recommend if you’re coming on vacation to Chand check this out this is just dreaming for course six I think is teriyaki chicken and it looks like NASA Japanese eggplant perfect and and for course what is this course eight we’ve got a sort of uh looks like Sukiyaki style they were calling it beef on rice and a soup it just keeps on coming keeps on coming and here is the dessert at last I’m so full it says Aran and look at this dessert we’ve got some sort of sherbet or saret a cake a strawberry cantaloupe looks like a kiwi orange all of this stuff all right what a feast this has been well I’m going to finish off dessert head to bed but tomorrow morning I’m going to speak with matsan the owner and uh so I will talk to you tomorrow morning this is the rmo or the outdoor bath and yeah it is significantly larger than the one in the rooms but uh yeah it’s dark so we can’t see anything thing it’s an outdoor bath there it is good morning it’s cleared up it’s a bit windy right now as uh maybe you can hear but the rain and Mists have lifted and just gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean take a look at what I’m looking at right now this Coastline in Taro is just stunning I could sit here for hours just watch the waves crash over these rocks I talked to mataman about why he opened this hotel after the tsunami destroyed his other one and his uh experiences during the tsunami and so take a look at that [Music] for for so if you come up to hike the MCT I I hope you’ll one hire me as a guide to take you along if our schedules match and to enjoy a night at the taroon it really is worth it thank you so much for watching and I’ll see you on the trails

  1. Matsumoto-san will show the entire video he took of the tsunami when you visit his hotel. He kindly allowed me to use a part of it at the end of this video. To see the rest, consider visiting!
I wasn't paid to make this video. I just really like the ryokan, and Matsumoto-san kindly let me stay one night for free in order to do the filming. (I usually stay here while I'm working, so I hadn't been able to film before.)

  2. straight onto the bucket-list section of my Google Maps pins! That sea mist really was something else…

  3. When i can afford more than a business hotel then i know where to go! Amazing location and seems like a superb ryokan!

  4. Thank you for sharing information about this beautiful hotel! Ah, those meals! But the memory of the tsunami — still harrowing to contemplate. What courage and commitment it takes to rebuild after such devastation.

  5. The beauty of this place is absolutely stunning! I know it must be amazing on a sunny day but, as far as I'm concerned, drinking coffee on that massage chair while gazing out onto the mistbound coast seems equally heavenly. You're so lucky! I'm going to travel there as soon as I get the chance.
