Good morning! I am taking a train to Tottori prefecture today. I will go visit the Tottori Sand Dunes, the only desert in Japan! the train is called the limited express “Hamakaze” I will go from Kinosaki Onsen directly to Tottori station with this train. It takes around 2 hours and costs around 3000 Yen
Surprisingly, it is very snowy outside my goal is to visit the famous Japanese desert in Tottori, but I was not expecting to find snow here (in March!). I hope I can still visit it! I arrived at Tottori station. Let’s take a taxi to the Dunes observatory platform!
Here I am at the Tottori Sand Dunes observatory platform, but I cannot see anything because of the snow 🙁 however, from here I can reach the desert directly by ropeway It is so weird to go to the desert with a ropeway… on a snowy day!!
The snow was getting heavier, so I had to open my umbrella to protect my head I almost fell down while trying to open the umbrella 🙁 it was scary we are going to cross the street with the ropeway now
You can hear the sound from the street below, so it gives the impression a car is going to crash into you 🙂 my hand holding the camera is completely frozen now… I cannot feel it anymore 🙁 but the view is very cool, so it is worth it 🙂
We finally arrived, the ropeway was crazy cold with the snow! the staff is trying to tell me something but I don’t understand what they mean 🙁 oh they want me to close my umbrella
It was a terrible landing 🙁 I was clumsy in getting off the ropeway with the umbrella and the photo camera in my hands anyway… at the base of the ropeway station, there is the entrance to the Tottori sand dunes there is one thing I want to buy before going into the desert
Here they are! I bought these snow and sand protection for my shoes cool right!? They only cost 400 yen and will protect my feet from the cold they are disposable so you can only use them 1 time this is the entrance to the desert. we finally made it
It’s the first time I’ve seen a desert covered in snow!! walking here is very weird… I can feel the snow and the consistency of the sand below at the same time so you feel the initial resistance of the snow, but then your feet go down into the sand
Quite a lot of people are here already the desert is short from the entrance to the sea (north to south), but very large in extension (east to west) you really cannot see the end
Running on the snow is something I have always loved since I was a kid… so forgive me if I do this 🙂 the combination of snow and sand makes it very hard to move, so I got tired quickly by running there is a strange formation of snow and sand
Wow, it was much harder than it looked! there is some kind of lake there… I guess it might be the melted snow and rain deposited there the water is very clean! this is the main dune. believe me when I say it is so much bigger than it looks in the video!
The view from halfway is very nice, and also very unusual! the climb is tough… the sand with snow makes you slip and almost fall down the last little bit… it took me a very long time to climb this can see the sea from the top! It’s kind of a dramatic view from here!
Have you ever seen the snow fall down on the sea? we made a long walk from the entrance! You can see dunes and mountains far away from here the sea is a bit scary. This is the first time I have gone to the beach and I do not want to swim 🙂
I was told there are camels here but I cannot see them anywhere maybe they are resting because of the snow it started to snow very heavily we should start going back before it becomes dangerous. The wind is also powerful it’s slippery so going down is even harder than the climb
Kids are having a lot of fun it seems 🙂 I am having fun too but I feel the cold wind freezing my face this is Sakyu Kaikan Here you can have lunch, buy souvenirs, watch the dunes from the terrace, and catch a bus to the station
This is also where I bought my foot protection for the snow I am starving… let’s see what they have on the restaurant menu a mix of everything! Mainly fish but I prefer something else on a snowy day
I opted for a Tonkatsu. this is fried pork and it comes with salad, potato cream, and rice there is also a small miso soup lunch was good. time for shopping! the main character that represents the Tottori sand dunes is the camel… So all the souvenirs are Camel-shaped!
It’s a shame I could not see any real camel today! oh, this is interesting… seems like you can rent this bipedal thingy on sunny days and drive it in the desert sounds fun! snow has stopped falling down but all the streets and cars are covered by it
I love watching nature covered in snow. In particular the trees I only have time for a short walk before I catch my bus to the station my hand holding the camera is freezing so it is hard to make a video here 🙁 anyway, it was a great day here in Tottori!
I have to take my train to Okayama now, I hope you enjoyed the video! please don’t forget to like and subscribe if you had fun watching this! thank you!! See you on the next adventure!
