what’s with the missing headlights? Why do people take them out?

It’s for the air intake the more air = more power or that it can handle

There’s a few people saying air intake, but to go a step further… Cold air is more dense than warm air, so gives a more efficient, bigger bang in the engine when ignited, and more power. So because the air under the bonnet is hot due to the engine, they’re clearing a path, for cold air flow from outside, directly into the air filters, through the turbo and into the engine. A common thing on modified cars is to see an air box get removed and replaced with a pod filter, which (although it sounds better) can actually reduce the engine power, because it’s just sucking in warm air. On YouTube, the Mighty Car Mods channel has some great videos on this, if you search for Suzuki Swift Vs Peugeot 206 episodes.

ram intake for turbos and on alot of old cars people go mad with weight saving so headlights which are usually have some weight can be removed for a plastic one

  4. Why do I always think of what could happen if like a branch/ obstructing object were to fall in a hole like that ?

Because the more cool air you can have hitting your turbo, procharger, twin screw supercharger, intake will increase the amount of power that can be made.

Also unlike a turbo trumpet or cone it doesn’t require cutting your headlights to make a hole for it to fit. You just delete the headlight
