Hello, everyone! I’m at Maizuru Port in Kyoto Prefecture now. I’m getting on that ferry over there and heading to Hokkaido soon! This is what the route looks like. It’ll be a long trip of about 20 hours!

The departure time is 11:50 p.m. Even though it’s in the middle of the night, they’re busy loading cargos. The name of this big ferry is “Hamanasu.” The passenger capacity is 746 people, the overall length is 224.8 m (737.53 ft.), and the gross tonnage is 16,897 tons.

This is one of the biggest ferries in Japan. I can see a very big rope. It’s very thick if I look at it from a close distance! And though this “Hamanasu” is… a large long-distance ferry that can hold cars,

It runs at 30.5 knots per hour (about 56 km/h / 34.79 mi./h), which is the fastest in the country. ※The regular speed of a ferry is about 20 knots (about 38 k/h / 23.61 mi./h). Even by the world’s standards, this is top-class speed! Amazing!

Is that a forward saloon over there?? It seems like it has a great view. And this will be my first time in Hokkaido, so I am looking forward to it! I’m at the ferry terminal. I’ve already completed the reservation, payment, and issuance of the boarding passes. So, I can just go onboard.

It’s scheduled to leave Maizuru Port at 11:50 p.m. → arrive at Tomakomai East Port at 8:30 p.m. Now, it’s time to get onboard, so let’s go up to the 3rd floor. Today, we’re departing from Maizuru Port,

But originally, it was scheduled to leave from Tsuruga Port which is about 80 km (49.7 mi.) from here. But due to an engine inspection, it was cancelled and then changed to Maizuru Port. Usually, the regular service leaving from Maizuru Port goes to Otaru, Hokkaido. Thank you so much. Hurry up! I’m here!

I get keys at the front desk. The room is located on the 6th floor, 2 floors up from here. Is this a planet? The theme of this ferry is space. The guest rooms are located on floors 4 through 6. Now, let’s go to our room.

Today, we’re staying in Deluxe Room A, a twin room, for 66,000 yen ($472.09) (for 2 adults). I’m on the 6th floor! The shared space doesn’t seem too big. It’s room 602. It’s here. OPEN!! I’m here! This is the Deluxe Room A.

It’s about 20 years old, so it looks like it’s been used a lot, but it’s cozy with the same old atmosphere. There’s a table on the right when I enter the room, and the tea set and other items are available. They have a brochure, a tissue box, and hot water already.

This has tea bags inside. Thank you so much. It says that water on the ferry is drinkable. There’s a dryer and a phone just for inside the ferry. It’s great to have a table! They also have a Japanese-style room, but I chose a Western-style room today. Yukata is available.

You can use this like a pajama, and when you out of the room, you’re supposed to change. The fabric is fairly thin, so it may be cold in winter. The light on the bedside can be adjusted individually. It’s convenient! There’s a refrigerator under the table.

It’s empty, so let me go get something to drink. There’s a closet right by the entrance. There are 4 hangers and a deodorizing spray. Let’s look inside the bathroom. It has a toilet and shower in one room. …Oh, wait?? The light doesn’t come on. Oh,

It came on! I thought the light was out! Lol. I can tell it’s been used for a long time… Only Suite and Deluxe rooms are equipped with a bath. They have a large public bath, so it’s OK, but it’s nice to have a toilet. Shampoo, conditioner, and body soap are provided.

And a toothbrush is available. Now, let’s check the water pressure. Oh, it looks great! It’s fairly strong. What?? The water is leaking. Once I turn on the water, I can’t use the toilet. Let’s put that aside for now… It’s great to have towels available!

It looks like they put a washlet on a regular toilet. So, the seat is higher than a regular one. A washlet is a necessity now, so it’s great. The button for wash is a classic retro style… Now, I’m going to the shop to do some shopping.

Is this artwork supposed to represent a wave? It’s almost 12 a.m. midnight… I’m getting hungry. The shop is on the 4th floor. The shop is open until 12:30 a.m., when the lights go out. I wonder what they have.

At the shop on a ferry, they usually sell local goods from the departing place and arrival place, so it’s always fun since I get to see something new. They have a lot of food from Hokkaido. They have a lot of alcohol too! It’s late today, so I’ll just get a chuhai.

Pickled plum and lime-flavored ones (190 yen each / $1.39 each). And some cheese (220 yen / $1.57). And they have snacks that I’ve never seen before! It’s a small shop, but it has variety of items, so it looks great.

I’m going to buy a midnight snack! Yakisoba (fried noodles) only sold in Hokkaido! (230 yen / $1.65) The total was 835 yen ($5.97). They have a lot of snacks I want to try, so I’ll save them for tomorrow. Let me get something to drink.

There are vending machines for ice cream and cup noodles that you always see on ferries. They have a variety of beer and soft drinks. Oh! It sounds like it just departed. Then, let me get some water. And some tea too. Now, let’s go back to our room.

I met some jolly old men in the elevator, and we hit it off! They offered to show us the suite they were staying in! Thank you for letting us come in! Wow, it’s so spacious! It looks nice! They said they were about to have a “party” now! Thank you for showing us your room!

It’s always great when we meet wonderful people during our trip. Well, they were fun old men. Meeting people is one of the things I look forward to during our trips. We’ve departed, but we can still see the city lights. Now, it’s time for the midnight snack.

It’s a little spicy yakisoba! I can’t wait to try it! I put dried vegetables in and pour boiled water. It also had an instant soup mix inside! It seems like I’ll use the boiled water I poured in a while ago to eat this! I’ll time 3 minutes. It’s ready!

I’ll use this hot water for the soup. I’ve never had soup made with hot water used to rehydrate the noodles, so I wonder if it’ll taste good. It looks delicious. We’ve had a long day! Yummy Now, let me try the yakisoba. It’s delicious! It’s actually not that spicy!

Now, let me try the soup. Oh, it’s actually delicious, lol. This is great because I can enjoy two dishes! Now, I’ll go take a bath! The bath is located on the 5th floor, one floor below. You can use the large public bath until 1 a.m.

It seems like nobody is inside, so I’ll show you the inside too. This is the shoe box. There’s a changing area on the left when you go in. Paper towels, a dryer, and cloth for cleaning are available. Let’s look inside the large public bath.

It’s spacious, and the hot water is clean! It looks comfortable. There are many washing areas. And there’s a sauna in the back! I’m going to go in. Wow! It’s so steamy! If you like saunas, you’d be happy. I’m not a big fan of saunas, because I have a hard time breathing, lol.

There are lockers with keys (100-yen coin return lockers). Ahh, it was refreshing. But since I was alone in the middle of the night, it was kind of scary… Currently, we’re sailing off Wakasa Bay. Now, I’m going to sleep. Good night. Now, I’m going to sleep. Good night. Good morning

I slept in late… And it’s cloudy again. It’s 8:17 a.m. right now. It seems like we’re sailing near Sado Island. Let me get out to the terrace. It’s cloudy, but the ocean is shining and beautiful. I can almost see the sun, but I can’t… Wow, it does seem faster than other ferries!

I’ll have some morning tea. The announcement about the operation of the restaurant for breakfast came on. I had yakisoba in the middle of the night last night, so I’m not hungry. So, I’m going to skip breakfast. My stomach feels warmed up. It’s 10 a.m. now.

Currently, we’re sailing off the coast of Akita Prefecture. I’m getting hungry after all, so I’m going to the cafe to have a light meal. This is a restaurant where you can enjoy a course meal. Is the theme of these doors also a spaceship? They look delicious. The cafe is open from 9:30 a.m.

They have a variety of food, but I want to eat some takoyaki (octopus balls) (500 yen / $3.58). I also ordered cafe latte (290 yen / $2.08) and hot cocoa (210 yen / $1.50). It’s 990 yen ($7.11) total for 3 items. They’re here!! To my surprise, we got 3 cups of cafe latte!!

They said the milk didn’t froth very well, so they gave them to us for free! Amazing. Takoyaki is here too! They look delicious. Wow! The service is amazing. I wonder if I can drink it all, lol. I can tell the inside is melty just by looking at them. They look delicious.

First, I’m going to taste this cafe latte that looks the most successful, lol. Yes, it’s delicious! I’m sure it’ll taste delicious even without the milk foam. Now, let me try the takoyaki. It looks great, lol. Yummy. It tastes just like the ones from a special store! Can you tell how melty this is?

I feel like I’m getting even more hungry… If I look at the ocean outside… I can visually tell that the speed is fast. The white wave is beautiful. We got this for free again!!! This time, they said they couldn’t get the iced one very well and served it to me!

What generous staff! What great hospitality, lol. I almost feel bad for getting so much service. I’m starting to feel bloated, but I’m happy about their spirit. Yes, it’s delicious! It’s not a failure at all. Thank you for the great service! I feel so happy that I got to meet kind people again.

But I feel bloated from drinking too much cafe latte, so let me go to the bathroom, lol. It’s simple and clean. They keep it very sanitary. This is a diaper changing table. Just like the one in our room, the washlet has been installed on top of a regular toilet.

I’m going to take a walk in the ferry. There are 100-yen coin return lockers just like the ones at the public bath. The smoking area is in the back. This is a play area for kids. It’s closed now. It’s bright and nice! This is the vending machine area that I used yesterday also.

After the vending machine area, if I keep going… there’s a massage room. And there’s a big arcade in further back. It’s spacious! It may be the biggest one yet. The new ferry, Sunflower, that I rode the other day didn’t have an arcade. So, it may disappear in the future.

What!? They used to have a hockey game available! I wish I could play it! At the entrance, a booth is set up where you can get a commemorative stamp. Let me try it. No, it wasn’t this one. lol. There! Oh, no… You’re kidding, lol. I put so much ink on it, though, lol.

Let me try it again. Sorry, but I’m going to take one more. I hope I get it right this time… I should stop now, lol. Take that!!! I’m pressing it strongly. How is it!? Hmm?? It doesn’t look quite right. Well, maybe it’s designed to look like this, lol. It looks pretty good.

It’s 12:30 p.m. now. We’r already off the coast of Aomori Prefecture. Now, let me have some lunch! They have many delicious-looking dishes on the menu. I’m thinking about getting ramen for lunch. It seems like you’re supposed to get your own seasonings. You also get your own water.

The inside of the restaurant is bright and spacious. Hokkaido miso butter corn ramen (800 yen / $5.74) It looks delicious with the butter! This is Shiretoko salt ramen. It came with mini fried rice as a set for 1,000 yen ($7.17)! Bottled beer (650 yen / $4.66) Oops! Lol, I’m sorry, lol.

Beer is the best. Now, I’m going to enjoy the ramen! Wow! Very delicious!! I didn’t think I could get such good ramen on a ferry! The salt ramen was also delicious. I finished a very satisfactory lunch and came outside. It seems like we’ll be passing through above Seikan Tunnel soon.

Seikan Tunnel is a railway tunnel connecting Honshu and Hokkaido. A portion of the tunnel is located 100 m (330 ft) below the seabed of the Tsugaru Strait. And the overall length is 53.85 km (33.46 mi), which makes it the longest tunnel used for transportation in Japan. Let’s check out the forward saloon.

Oh, the curtains are closed. It seems like nobody is here. I see… Probably due to the weather, the blinds are also closed. It’s a great area, so I’m disappointed. It seems like there’s a smoking room on the 4th floor also. Let me go check it out. The curtains are closed here too.

The room doesn’t smell like cigarettes, so I feel comfortable. I’m at the movie theater. It seems like they’re right in the middle of a movie. It looks great! I’m sure it’ll be refreshing. Let me show you the bath during daytime just a little bit.

Just as I expected, it’s brighter during the daytime, so it looks more comfortable. I bought some alcohol and snacks at the shop! Smoked oysters in oil (890 yen / $6.38) Smoked scallop adductors in oil (1,140 yen / $8.17) Freshly grilled sailfin sandfish (650 yen / $4.66)

Kazuchi (herring roe and cheese) (500 yen / $3.59) Kappa Ebisen (Shrimp flavored chips) scallop butter soy sauce flavor (140 yen / $1.00) And the wine I’m currently in love with! Niagara (840 yen / $6.02). Kaku highball (250 yen / $1.79) & chuhai ramune soda flavor (190 yen / $1.36)

It has plenty of large oysters inside. Oh, the umami from the oyster is strong. It goes well with the alcohol. I’m going to try this! Sailfin sandfish is the prefectural fish of Akita Prefecture, and it is mainly eaten on the Japan Sea side.

It’s a small fish, so it seems like I can eat the whole fish. Oh, it’s pretty chewy! It has a light and plain flavor. I can definitely keep going with the drinks. I came out to the deck.

The land you can see over there is around Omacho in Aomori Prefecture, which is famous for tuna. And what I can see on the opposite side is… Hakodate City, Hokkaido. The mountain on the left is called Mt. Hakodate,

And the night view from the summit is said to be the most beautiful in the world. That is Tsugaru Kaikyo Ferry. You can go back and forth between Omacho and Hakodate in an hour and half. I’m having dinner now.

I chose a set meal with Atka mackerel (1,600 yen / $11.47). It’s quite big! My husband chose a set meal with zangi (1,100 yen / $7.89). Zangi is deep-fried chicken. Atka mackerel was fatty and very delicious. Zangi had a strong flavor, so he was able to eat a lot of white rice.

It’s 7:39 p.m. now. We’ll be arriving at Tomakomai East Port in about an hour. I can see the port now! This is actually Hokkaido (even though I can’t see very well since it’s dark). I’m playing the video at double speed. The ferry is docked now.

I wanted to see this boarding bridge get connected to the ferry, but they said it was broken. So, they suddenly decided to transport us to the terminal by bus. I always ride the ferry without a vehicle, so this is new to me. This is kind of interesting.

Are those ladies the janitors?? Thank you for working at such a late hour!! I can see Hamanasu now. Thank you for the great trip. Tomorrow, I’ll be going to the biggest onsen resort in Hokkaido, Noboribetu onsen! I’ve enjoyed some seafood, so I’ll show you just a little bit.

3 color donburi 2,500 yen ($17.93)Luxurious donburi (bowl of rice) with sea urchin, salmon roe, crab! Surf clam curry 1,000 yen ($7.17)Local, iconic food in Tomakomai City! Grilled oysters & Grilled scallops (800 yen / $5.74 each)Everything tasted delicious. Noboribetsu Onsen (Hot springs) Jigokudani (Hell valley)

Unfortunately, it was raining, but I was able to enjoy the scenery enough. The smell of sulfur is strong. There are walking trails here and there, so you can look at it very closely. Thank you for watching the video until the end! Please don’t forget to like and subscribe! Thank you for your support!

  1. I was about to ask, if you smudge or mess up the commemorative ticket could you get another one! You answered that quite nicely 😂 Love watching your travels!❤
